Lee McGraw grew up in St. Louis where she studied 2-3 dimensional design at Washington University. After graduating, Lee found that is was difficult to show her art in commercial galleries. Undeterred, she and a friend would show their art and produce performance pieces in empty warehouses in downtown St. Louis.
In 1987, Lee moved to San Francisco where she continued developing her artistic style. She also found a home for her work at the Art Lick Gallery.
In 2001, Lee moved to the Napa Valley and showed her work, along with 45 other artists, at the annual Open Studios Tour. She also exhibited her paintings and assemblages in the Napa Valley Museum and had a solo show at the SOCAL Gallery in Napa.
Lee moved to Brenham 7 years ago and has opened Gallery 979 in downtown Brenham.
