Among all of the other features that we have in development, we will be putting a "marketplace" section on the site, which will showcase members using the ecommerce features of this site.
The functions and technical work for this section is nearly complete. We are planning on making this a browsable section, so you can view images by type, media and by the seller / artist. Depending on the expected size of this section, we will probably also add keyword searching. All images would need admin approval before appearing in the directory, simply to ensure that we aren't selling any porn, or anything that might cause a problem. So far, there hasn't been any of that, so I don't forsee this becoming an issue anyway.
The categories will probably break down similar to those in spotlight or critique sections. Categories have been a hot topic in the past, so I'm opening this up for general discussion - if you'd like to see additional classifications there, let me know.
We have about 400 images for sale on the site since we launched the paypal functionality about a week ago. I'm hoping this number gets a little higher (as it will) before we put the marketplace on line. SO - many of you have this feature available to you, and can use it at no extra charge. If you haven't checked it out, please feel free - and if you had a problem initially (there was a minor bug, which prevented some accounts from being setup) - we've got all the kinks worked out.
That's all... for now!
Yes... this feature probably would appeal most to photographers and models, and our smaller group of traditional artists as well.
I've debated allowing other types of products in this section as well - for example, we have an artist that does custom backdrops. Or for stylists - clothes, for example. That probably doesn't address the MUA angle though...
We're going to have something in place addressing the copyright issue. I don't forsee this section being overwhelmingly large, so it would be something that could be managed reasonably.
