Balthus bemused by colour
Photographs reflecting the enigmatic influence of the painter Balthus.
"It was always about approaching the mystery of childhood, its languid grace at ill-defined borders. I sought to paint the soul's secrets, the obscure and luminous tension of their partially blooming matrix. I might say it's about the crossing. The uncertain worrisome time when innocence is total and will soon give way to another age, more determinedly social."
The title refers to a piece of music by Harold Budd

Happiness is an angel with a serious face. What I am seeking is not the real and not the unreal but rather the unconscious, the mystery of the instinctive.
Le bonheur est un ange avec un visage sérieux.
Que je cherche, n'est pas le vrai et pas l'irréel, mais plutôt l'inconscient, le mystère de l'instinctif.
Our days were a joy, and our paths through flowers.
